Homegrown Eldercare Products Store Celebrates Their 10th Anniversary
SINGAPORE - 7 SEPTEMBER 2021:The Golden Concepts has recently celebrated their 10th year of operations. This is a huge milestone for the two female millennial co-founders Vanessa Keng and Lee Chang Xi who have been actively changing the ageing landscape of Singapore with their passion and innovation.
“What an amazing journey it has been these past 10 years. The Golden Concepts was founded with a dream to enable everyone to live their best life in the golden years. Through the years, we are grateful to have met many kind and supportive people who believe in our mission to enable ageing well,” said Keng.
From a small home-based business with only 4 products, The Golden Concepts now has over 400 products ranging from mobility aids to bathroom equipment, including their own brand of products designed to bring a modern and stylish twist to the traditional alternatives.
They are the first Singaporean company with a ‘elder-friendly home’ concept showroom that introduces assistive devices designed to promote independence and mobility. This is unlike the usual rehabilitative aspect that most companies in the market move towards.
After embarking on their exchange programme to Denmark, Keng and Lee were inspired by the Danish seniors who lived full and active lives. They were determined to bring this positive outlook of ageing back home and founded The Golden Concepts as fresh university graduates in 2011.
10 years later, they have over 300 5-star reviews on their website. “We care about our customers and their families and we want to give them the best experience. Caregiving is challenging, so we try our best to ease some of these challenges,” Keng said.
However, the Covid-19 pandemic has brought about a new wave of challenges to our pioneers. “Due to COVID restrictions, seniors experience much less activity and this worries us as it would eventually lead to a loss of mobility,” said Keng.
She adds, “From the start of the pandemic, we began utilising our social channels and email newsletters to reach out to our audience to educate them on the dangers of inactivity, and suggest ways they can maintain their mobility at home.”
With a new focus on promoting mobility indoors, The Golden Concepts regularly hosts Virtual Talks with eldercare experts on topics like Mental Wellness, Dementia, Effective Transfers and even virtual yoga workouts for seniors. They continue to remain connected with their customers through the creation of a WhatsApp broadcast list, where they share educational content such as e-books, blog posts and videos in hopes of tackling the issue of decreased mobility in seniors.
